"P20" is a family name, not one single product — we stock the specific P20 and P20-modified grades your mould actually needs: 2311, 2738 and 2738HH, all imported and cut to size in Mumbai.
P20 is an AISI-designated chromium-molybdenum mould steel, supplied pre-hardened and tempered so it can be machined into a cavity without further heat treatment. It's the most widely specified plastic-mould steel in the world — which also means "P20" gets used loosely to mean several closely related grades rather than one exact spec.
In practice, when a customer or a drawing calls out "P20," it usually means one of three grades we stock: 2311 (standard P20 modified, our most-ordered grade), 2738 (a nickel-alloyed P20 variant with better through-hardness for large blocks), or 2738HH (2738 heat-treated to a higher hardness band for longer tool life). We also stock 2083, a stainless P20-type grade, for jobs that need corrosion resistance.
If you're not sure which of these matches your job, use the comparison below or call us — most sizing and grade questions get answered the same day.
| Grade | Type | Typical Hardness | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2311 / 1.2311 | Standard P20 modified | 30–34 HRC | General-purpose plastic injection moulds — our most-ordered grade |
| 2738 | Nickel-alloyed P20 | 30–34 HRC | Large blocks needing even through-hardness and high polish |
| 2738HH | Nickel-alloyed P20, high hardness | 38–42 HRC | High-volume production or abrasive/glass-filled plastics |
| 2083 | Stainless P20-type | 210–240 HB (annealed) / 50–54 HRC (hardened) | Medical, optical & food-contact tooling needing corrosion resistance |
