High-carbon, high-chromium cold-work tool steel stocked for the most abrasive cutting and forming jobs.
D3 sits alongside D2 in the same high-chromium cold-work family, but with more carbon and chromium in the mix. That extra carbide content pushes wear resistance and compressive strength even higher — at the cost of some toughness and dimensional stability during hardening compared with D2.
We stock D3 for jobs where straightforward abrasion resistance matters more than tight dimensional control after hardening — punching abrasive sheet, deep drawing, and forming rolls that see continuous, high-volume wear. It's supplied annealed and hardens to a very high 60–62 HRC.
Held in working stock for toolroom and jobbing orders alongside our other cold-work grades.
